I am drawn and amused by the quick minutia, the details, in our surroundings. The seemingly discarded. Notes. Obscured signs. Overlooked beauty - or, "Ugly Beauty" as Thelonious Monk put it. These are cropped, partially revealed stories.

South of Gaffey Street on 9th headed towards the post office. There's an old, tan, Chevy Blazer parked on the right, it's rear, shattered, pop-up window is up and revealing a large painting stuffed behind the seat and surrounded by piles of laundry. It's Van Gogh's Starry Night. (11/21/99)
