words. is a mixed media exhibit featuring six South Bay artists, all with a passion for words. Edith Abeyta uses found paper trash, banned books and other found elements and incorporates sewing. Carol Es, a painter, brings color and hope to a broken past. Rob Abeyta brings us subliminal beauty and spirituality within his canvases, while writers Michael Phillips and Andy Jenkins also show us their visual talents in drawing and assemblage. Bob Tower provides an ambient sound and all together a wonderful art event occurs. Curated by Carol Es, with the help of Program Coodinator, Marshall Astor of Angels Gate Cutural Center in San Pedro, California, words. will begin exhibiting in June of 2002 and will run for one month until the 21st of July at Angels Gate's Gallery G in San Pedro.

More than a thematic exhibit, words. is an interactive event for viewers in where the artists connect with people. Having a common thread, whether in art, our jobs, or in our relationships, words can be deeply indoctrinating for all of us as human beings and the world at large. We use words as communication and interaction. They are formative and can be used to heighten our existence, educate, complement, or abuse. We need them to learn, to read, to write and to think. Having the power to heal, or possible destroy, words can be magical, significant, or completely meaningless.

FREE "Food for Thought" giveaway! - For the opening reception the artists will extend the theme of words. within the refreshments served at the opening, wherein small fragments of art will be worked in as food for thought instead of ingestion. These faux foods are availble to the viewers at the reception for as long as they last.

Hope to see you there!
